Solar Thermal
harvest the power of the sun
Solar thermal systems—commonly referred to as solar hot water—utilize heat from the sun to heat or preheat water that you use in your home. A typical system encompasses these major components: the collector panels, a storage tank, and a control pump. The panels collect heat from the sun year-round, even on winter days in New England, and with a state-of-the art heat exchange system, transfer the energy into your domestic water.
If you currently have an electric or gas fire hot water heating system, it will continue to operate as before to guarantee no loss of thermal comfort. Your new solar system will preheat the water before it reaches your tank; therefore, the majority of energy required to heat the water will come from the sun.
If you use oil heat for your hot water, then we have a dual chamber storage tank. The primary is heated by solar energy, and the secondary chamber is tied into your oil system to function as a back up. This guarantees no loss of thermal comfort, and also means that most of the energy you use to heat your hot water comes from the sun!

A properly located solar water heater will work well all year, in any climate.
An analysis of your home's site plan is the key to success. For best results, a solar water heater in MA, VT, NH or NY should be mounted on a south, east, or west-facing pitched or flat roof with minimal shade. The system that is appropriate for your home is based on the size of your family. In general, we design our systems to supplement from 50 to 75 percent of a home's annual hot water needs.

A correctly installed and well-maintained system will provide clean energy for decades.
The wonderful thing about a solar thermal system is that it will actually create energy, not use it. Like your other home appliances, however, solar thermal systems require not only proper installation, but periodic maintenance. In order to maximize energy production and extend their longevity, maintenance on thermal systems can be as infrequent as every three to five years. We provide support and maintenance for all of our systems during their entire lifecycle, ensuring that they meet all requirements for building codes and safety issues.
